NASA Glenn’s Mark II oven was developed for prototype silicon-carbide device testing at temperatures up to 500 °C. The report shows a ThermoMart PID controller integrated into the completed hardware and identifies the model and manufacturer in the bill of materials.

The NASA application

NASA Glenn engineers built a compact 500 °C oven for prototype silicon-carbide device testing. A ThermoMart controller runs the oven’s temperature-control system and is shown in the completed assembly.

The research application

The research team built a stainless-steel, vacuum-tight chamber to study reusable fluorescent thin-film sensors for trace explosive vapours. A thermocouple connected to the PID-SSR-USB read and recorded the sensor temperature during the experiments.

Used in forensic thermolysis and mass spectrometry research

A ThermoMart four-channel PID controller and K-type thermocouples were documented in Purdue forensic chemistry research.

The doctoral work developed thermolysis instruments for forensic gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Its materials list names ThermoMart equipment, and Figure 3.13 shows computer-controlled four-channel PID temperature control.

The research application

The research team fabricated thermolysis units for gas chromatography–mass spectrometry, including studies of thermally labile nitrate esters. The system used multi-zone PID temperature control across its furnace and instrument interfaces.
